Global Afrobeats icon Wizkid is set to make his film festival debut in 2025, not in an acting role as some might have speculated, but with a powerful documentary chronicling his extraordinary journey. Titled “Wizkid: Long Live Lagos,” the feature documentary will have its world premiere at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, scheduled to run from June 4th to 15th, 2025.


This news, which broke on April 16th, 2025, has generated significant excitement across social media platforms like X, TikTok, and Instagram, with fans celebrating this new dimension to Wizkid’s artistry.

Directed by Karam Gill and co-produced with Daniel Malikyar, “Wizkid: Long Live Lagos” promises to offer an intimate and compelling look at Wizkid’s evolution from the vibrant streets of Lagos to his current status as a global superstar. The documentary will blend personal moments, electrifying performance footage, and insightful cultural commentary. It aims to showcase how Wizkid has used his influential platform to reshape global perceptions of Africa, reclaim African identity, and inspire a new generation through his music, style, and storytelling.

The film is set to feature conversations with a range of individuals who have been integral to Wizkid’s journey, including Afrobeat pioneer Femi Kuti, Wizkid’s long-time manager and partner Jada Pollock, British media personality Julie Adenuga, and prominent music executive Seni Saraki, who also served as a co-producer on the project. Other contributors include Sunday Are, Matthew Temitope Solomon, and Karen Binns, offering rare insights into the Grammy-winning artist’s creative world.


“Wizkid: Long Live Lagos” has been selected to screen in Tribeca’s Spotlight+ section, a curated program that pairs film premieres with live performances, in-depth conversations, or immersive experiences, extending the storytelling beyond the screen. Following the documentary’s screening, audiences can look forward to a live conversation with Wizkid and director Karam Gill, providing a deeper understanding of the film’s vision and purpose.


This documentary adds to a compelling lineup of music-focused projects premiering at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, which also includes works featuring artists like Miley Cyrus, Metallica, and Billy Idol, further highlighting the intersection of music and cinema.

While Wizkid had previously expressed an interest in venturing into acting, even mentioning a desire for roles involving kissing and action scenes back in November 2023, his film festival debut will be through this documentary, offering a different kind of performance – a revealing look into his life and legacy.
