Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido sparks debate after disclosing high earnings for private performances

During a recent interview on *Tap In With TT*, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, revealed that top artists in Nigeria can command fees as high as $400,000 for performing at private events like naming ceremonies. 

The *Unavailable* hitmaker compared the trend to India’s entertainment culture, where wealthy families frequently hire celebrities to perform at weddings, birthdays, and other lavish celebrations. 

“You can get booked for a naming ceremony—$400K,” Davido said. “It’s like in India, where they celebrate everything. If you’re wealthy, the main thing is to bring in a big artist for your event.”

His comments have since gone viral, sparking mixed reactions online. While some Nigerians expressed shock at the hefty performance fees, others acknowledged that it highlights the extravagant spending habits of the country’s elite.
