Simi Expresses Discomfort Over Fans Calling Her Daughter ‘Duduke

Simi opens up about her discomfort with fans referring to her daughter as ‘Duduke

Nigerian singer-songwriter Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has shared her thoughts on fans frequently referring to her daughter, Deja, by the nickname *”Duduke.”*

During a recent interview, the acclaimed artist and doting mother admitted that while she recognizes the love behind the gesture, she isn’t fond of the nickname. Simi emphasized that Deja has her own identity and prefers that people use her actual name.

“I know people call her ‘Duduke’ because of the song, and I understand it’s done with good intentions, so I don’t make a big deal out of it, she said.“But personally, I don’t like it because my daughter has a name.”

Simi, known for hits like “Joromi,” also clarified the origin of “Duduke,” explaining that it simply represents the sound of a drumbeat and was never meant to be a meaningful name for her child.

The term gained popularity after Simi released her 2020 single “Duduke,” a heartfelt dedication to her then-unborn baby. Since then, fans have affectionately linked the word to Deja—a connection Simi now finds slightly unsettling.
