Ayra Starr Makes History as First African Female Artist to Hit 5 Million Spotify Followers

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has set a new record by becoming the first African female artist to amass over 5 million followers on Spotify. This milestone solidifies her position as one of the continent’s most-streamed artists on the global platform. 

While Ayra now leads in follower count among African women, she trails fellow Nigerian star Tems in total streams, Tems boasts 3.8 billion lifetime streams (including features), compared to Ayra’s 2.7 billion. 

Her breakout hit “Santa” remains her most-streamed track with over 707 million plays, while the viral anthem “Rush“* follows closely as her top lead single at 474 million streams. 

This achievement further cements Ayra Starr’s rapid rise as a dominant force in Afrobeats, following her recent MOBO Awards win and Grammy nomination. The 21-year-old continues to break barriers for African female artists on the global stage.
