The Dominance of Afrobeats: Top Streamed Nigerian Albums on Spotify

Afrobeats continues to conquer global streaming platforms, with Nigerian artists leading the charge on Spotify. According to recent data, Rema’s Rave & Roses (Ultra) tops the list as the most streamed Nigerian album, amassing an impressive 3.03 billion streams. This milestone is largely fueled by the viral hit “Calm Down” featuring Selena Gomez, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, propelling the album’s unexpected international success.

Trailing closely is Burna Boy’s Love, Damini with 1.46 billion streams, followed by his earlier work African Giant at 1.13 billion. These albums highlight Burna Boy’s Grammy-nominated prowess and his poignant commentary on Nigerian issues, resonating amid rising crime concerns—63% of Nigerians reported feeling unsafe in a 2020 Afrobarometer survey.

Wizkid’s Made In Lagos (Deluxe) clocks in at 1.04 billion, but newer talents like Asake are shaking things up, dropping three albums in three years and challenging veteran dominance. This shift may stem from Spotify’s 2023 crackdown on fake streams, as per MIDiA Research, favoring authentic global appeal.

As Afrobeats evolves, these numbers underscore Nigeria’s musical export power, blending culture and innovation for worldwide audiences.
