Angélique Kidjo Makes History

Beninese music icon Angélique Kidjo has become the first Black African artist and first African musician to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The five-time Grammy winner was honoured on 18 August 2026 at a ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard. Known for blending West African rhythms with jazz, funk and R&B across four decades, Kidjo has long championed African culture on the world stage.

Her star marks a landmark moment for African music, recognising both her artistic legacy and the growing global influence of the continent’s sounds. A true trailblazer, Kidjo continues to inspire generations.
