The music calendar just got extremely spicy. May 2026 is loaded with releases spanning Afrobeats, hip-hop, R&B, pop, and even some wild card debuts. From heavyweight names to intriguing collaborations and long-awaited returns, there’s something for almost every playlist.
Here’s the full lineup dropping this month:
- M$NEY — Asake (May 1)
- Testimony of Grace — Ice Prince (May 1)
- IT’S BEEN AWFUL — Isaiah Rashad (May 1)
- N0RTH4EVR — North West (May 1)
- MIDNIGHT SUN: GIRLS TRIP — Zara Larsson (May 1)
- HOOD BOY DREAMS 2 — Jeriq (May 6)
- FUJI XTRA — Adekunle Gold (May 8)
- THE GAME NEEDS US — BNXN & Sarz (May 11)
- BELOVED (ACT II) — Giveon (May 15)
- ICEMAN — Drake (May 15)
May 1 is an absolute bloodbath. Five projects hit the same day, and the energy is wildly different across each.
Asake’s M$NEY feels like the biggest Afrobeats event of the month. Following the success of Lungu Boy and his collaborative work, the fourth studio album is already generating massive pre-save numbers and street buzz. Expect the usual infectious rhythms, Fuji influences, and that signature Asake energy that dominates parties from Lagos to London.
Ice Prince is calling Testimony of Grace his “last and final album.” That alone adds emotional weight. The veteran rapper/singer has been teasing snippets, and if this is truly a farewell, fans will be tuning in for closure, reflection, and hopefully some classic Ice Prince moments.
On the American hip-hop side, Isaiah Rashad is finally back. IT’S BEEN AWFUL arrives after nearly five years since The House Is Burning. With features including SZA and production from the usual TDE-adjacent suspects, this one has “thoughtful, moody rap album of the year contender” written all over it.
Then we have the curiosities: North West (yes, Kim & Kanye’s daughter) dropping her project N0RTH4EVR, and Zara Larsson serving a remix/deluxe edition of Midnight Sun titled Girls Trip. One is pure internet chaos potential, the other is polished pop aimed at summer playlists.
Later in the month:
– Jeriq brings Hood Boy Dreams 2, street rap from the east that always carries raw energy.
– Adekunle Gold delivers Fuji Xtra, a deluxe/extension of his Fuji-inspired album. AG is one of the most consistent and versatile voices in Afrobeats, and leaning deeper into Fuji sounds should be special.
– BNXN & Sarz team up for The Game Needs Us. Their chemistry is already proven, and this joint project (possibly an EP) has the potential to deliver smooth, melodic Afrobeats that bangs in the club and in the car.
– Giveon expands his Beloved era with Act II more rich, velvety R&B for the lovers.
– And then there’s Drake with Iceman. The 6 God’s ninth studio album comes after a long wait, complete with a dramatic Toronto ice sculpture rollout. Whether you love or love-to-hate Drake, his albums still move culture.
So… Which One Am I Most Excited For?
